Troubleshooting HVAC Issues

We are Always Ready to give you prompt, professional service on your heating or AC unit; however, we also want to help you avoid unnecessary costs. Here are a few things to check while you’re waiting for our arrival:

Air Conditioning Troubleshooting

  • Is the thermostat turned to the “cool” setting?
  • Is the temperature setting lower than the room temperature?
  • Is your outdoor air conditioning running (condensing unit)?
  • If not, are the circuit breakers in the electrical panel all in the “ON” position?
  • If still running, is the outdoor unit’s disconnect switch turned to the “ON” position?
  • (The disconnect switch is located near the outdoor unit, normally a gray 6″w x 6″ h x 4″ d box mounted to the wall)
  • Is the blower motor in your furnace running? If thermostat is in “cool” position, the furnace blower should be running.
  • If not running, make sure the furnace’s “ON/OFF” switch is in the “ON” position.
  • Have you changed the filter in your furnace recently? Blocked filters can cause unit shutdown.
  • Do all return air grilles have at least 4” of clear air space from furniture?

Furnace Troubleshooting

  • Is the thermostat turned to the “heat” setting?
  • Is the temperature setting higher than the room temperature?
  • Is there power running to the furnace? Test by turning the fan to “ON” on your thermostat.
  • Are the circuit breakers in the electrical panel all in the “ON” position?
  • Is the power switch in the ‘ON’ position (power switch – light switch on a gray box located by the furnace)
  • Has the furnace filter been replaced recently?
  • All 1” thick furnace filters should be replaced monthly.
  • Wider filters (2” thick or thicker) and other high-capacity, pleated filters can most likely be changed every other month or just 6 times per year.
  • Do all return air grilles have at least 4” of clear air space from furniture?
  • Are all supply air registers open and blowing air?
  • Are other gas-fired appliances working properly (stove, fireplace, etc.)? If not, it may be a gas supply issue
