Founded and Incorporated
Founded by Army veteran Harley Morrison, the Morrison company began humbly as an unincorporated proprietorship in 1955 in a small shop on Greene Street in Marietta, offering heating, air conditioning, and appliance repair for homeowners. In 1961 Harley took on a partner, fellow Army veteran Edwin “Jack” Haas, and together they incorporated to form the new Morrison, Inc. That began the partners’ expansion of the business, which included the construction of a new, larger sales and service complex and showroom at 410 Colegate Drive in Marietta, where Morrison, Inc. remains today.
The Beginning Years
Due to the newness of air conditioning technology in the early 1960s, the company traveled as far as Lancaster, Ohio to provide heating, ventilating and air conditioning construction, service, and maintenance. From its beginning, Morrison, Inc. has been customer-service driven. The company’s first motto, “Service Comes First Here”, reflected that primary purpose. To this day we are proud of our persistence in solving difficult comfort and process heating and cooling problems.
A Family Affair
In 1979 Morrison, Inc. began to welcome the second generation of family into the ranks when Harley’s son, Ken, joined the company after completing his bachelor of science degree at Marietta College and then serving 6 years in the United States Air Force. Ken worked his way up through the company, beginning as the scheduler/dispatcher, moved to parts manager, and then project manager, until 1986 when he was named president of the company.
Morrison’s second generation growth continued in 1983 when Jack’s son, David, also joined the business while still a student at Ohio State University. Like Ken, David has held different positions within the company, from installer to scheduler/dispatcher, service manager, general manager, and vice president, until stepping forward in 2017 to serve as president. He says, “We credit this hands-on background of our management team with enabling us to stay closer to our customers, successfully solving technically challenging projects, and providing better overall service.”
We’re proud that Morrison, Inc. successfully continues today as a locally owned, family operated business, and about a decade ago we welcomed our third-generation family member. Ken’s stepson, Chase Hughes, joined our team in 2005 as dispatcher, moving to service manager, parts manager, and commercial project manager. And last year Chase was named Morrison’s vice president for development of our commercial business.

From our early days in a small storefront on Greene Street, our company has continued to evolve and grow through the years and changes in our industry. We still maintain a strong commitment to serving the home comfort needs of our hundreds of long-time residential customers, but Morrison, Inc. has also become a widely recognized leading provider of HVAC-R services to commercial, institutional, and industrial enterprises throughout the region.
For supermarkets, manufacturers, hospitals, schools, banks, and a host of other industries, we provide a wide range of services, from the basics of HVAC maintenance and indoor air quality improvements to energy management solutions and design/build for technically challenging projects. Further distinguishing us from most of our competitors is our full sheet metal fabrication shop, complete with a computer-aided design plasma cutting table.
Still Moving Forward
Today Morrison, Inc. employs more than 50 skilled men and women in our service, sheet metal, and customer support departments, bringing a combined 420+ years of professional experience to the table. Our service and installation technicians are tested and certified by the North American Technician Excellence (NATE), the nation’s largest non-profit certification organization for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration technicians, and all are EPA certified for environmentally sensitive refrigerant handling. Several hold membership in the local Plumbers & Pipefitters union while others are members of the local Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation (SMART) Workers union. As a certified drug-free workplace, all of our service personnel undergo random drug testing as well as routinely receive continuing education and specialized training for advances in our field.
In 2016 Morrison, Inc. again received the Marietta Times’ Readers’ Choice Award, an honor we’ve achieved every year since the award’s inception in 2005. We’re proud that the citizens of the Mid-Ohio Valley deem us worthy year after year to receive this recognition. Morrison has also qualified for the last 10 years as a Bryant Factory Authorized Dealer, a select group of HVAC contractors representing the top dealers in North America who have been screened by Bryant to offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee and consumer peace of mind that they have placed their trust in a truly professional company. In early February Morrison, Inc. was also honored to receive Bryant’s Circle of Champions designation, a distinction awarded to the top 3% of Bryant dealers in the nation for customer satisfaction, growth of sales of high-efficiency HVAC equipment, and total customer satisfaction.
